The Use of Intelligent Tutoring System for Developing Web-based Learning Communities

The purpose of this paper is to describe a webbased intelligent tutoring system (ITS) framework. A formal model of ITS compose of an user environment and pedagogical environment is presented, which represents domain knowledge based on ontologies to improve the sharing and reusing of teaching materials. The system constructs the user environment based on users’ knowledge levels, psychology characteristics, learning style, etc. Finally this paper attempts to emphasis the importance of intelligent tutoring system by confirming the effectiveness of tutorial programs based on artificial intelligence for developing web-based learning communities.
